Level 2 portable cord sets typically cost less than wall-mounted EVSEs, but they also tend to have lower amperage ratings and thus provide slower charges. All plug-in hybrids today use 3.3 kW onboard chargers, which means they can take on a maximum of 3.3 kilowatt-hours of electricity every hour they're connected to Level 2 equipment

Can I plug into any wall outlet at my house? When you get your smart electric drive, we include a 120-volt adapter that can plug into any standard 120-volt wall outlet. Plus, with our Battery Assurance ProgramSM, which allows you to lease the battery separately, and annual maintenance being covered, it will cost even less
Trying to offset the lower energy density, automakers chose flat cells because they pack together more densely, but such cells cost more to manufacture. The Model S shows two different range estimates: one that ticks down gradually, like a fuel gauge, and another that shows how your range would be affected if you kept driving like you have been for the last few minutes
Green Car Congress: DOE releases report from 6 projects evaluating EV charging impacts on grid and customer charging behaviors
Although project results showed negligible grid impacts from small-scale electric vehicle charging today, they also gave utilities important insights into the demand growth and peak-period charging habits they can anticipate if electric vehicle adoption rises as expected over the next decade. The report also examines when consumers want to recharge vehicles, and to what extent pricing and incentives can encourage consumers to charge during off-peak periods
Is that what we can expect from the new Leaf? Surely, the lower price will push some buyers into getting off the fence in the consideration of an electric vehicle. KevinHull 5pts I'm getting fed up with auto reviewers reminding us that "The Leaf owner can only make it 70 or 80 miles without having to stop for hours (overnight, probably) to recharge..." and, based on that, suggesting the car may not be a good option as yet
How much KWH does your house use per day - Green tech
This is no where near the worst we have done, but 5 years ago power didn't cost as much so I never used to give it a second thought about running the reverse cycle air-con all day and all night during Summer and Winter in our previous very large house. All that runs during the day when I am at work, is my fridge and my digital clock and my power saving controllers (And my hot water if I forget to turn it off, which is rarely) my washing machine is switched off at power point and hot and cold tapes are turned off

San Francisco introduces free, solar-powered electric vehicle charging - CNET
Wheatley said the amount of electricity generated by the stations per day was good for 100 electric vehicle miles.Envision Solar's charging station draws all of its electricity from the sun, needing no support from local utilities. Each station is self-contained, and sits on what Wheatley called a Ballast Traction Pad, a heavy plate that serves as the station's base and the parking spot for electric vehicles
While the published EPA EV range for Volt is an estimated 38 miles, the electric range that customers actually experience may be higher or lower than 38 due to the driver's technique, the terrain, battery age and the outdoor temperature. Some other conditions that may also cause the engine to start include: Propulsion battery charge is low Propulsion battery temperature is hot or cold Cold ambient temperatures Hood is open Engine and Fuel Maintenance (occurs only if engine has had very limited operation over a long period) Operating in Mountain Mode Driver has selected Hold mode
How much does capacitor cost?
Undo skilb Hi Derrickcando- Do you still have the contact info for the guy who replaced your AC capacitor? I am in Metro Atl and I think I need mine replaced nd need someone I can trust for a fair price. He says he will wait for a little bit in his truck, to see if the storm dies down, and then he will take a look (unit is outside, buried behind 10 foot shrubbery)
You will likely have two people, ladies usually doing scheduling and dispatch, the permits, receivables etc, probably 2 guys minimum, 2 company trucks, fuel costs and insurance for those, unemployment insurance for everyone, workers comp and at least a million dollar liability policy, a small warehouse somewhere with a little office space, lights, phones, internet, computers etc. Whenever I have called to ask questions about electrical, plumbing, etc it is ALWAYS the contractor that asked to come to the house and give an estimate
I had actually thought about using a 40 amp stove or dryer cord for going into the back of the charging unit because they already have ends on them and installing a 230 outlet, but the ends of the dryer cord I looked at seemed almost too large to fit on those smaller screws. The charger cord hangs beneath the unit - and unlike many EV chargers, this unit includes a receptacle to plug the charger plug into when not in use (keeps it clean and off the ground)
Unless the utilities or the local authorities provide charging stations, EV owners will have to park their vehicles in car parks with public charging facilities and walk the remaining distance to their homes. Quite apart from the inconvenience, it would require charging stations to be capable of bi-directional power transfer incorporating inverters with precisely controlled voltage and frequency output to feed the energy back into the grid
MOBILE CONNECTOR + DUAL CHARGERS The Mobile Connector (29 miles of range per hour of charge, regardless of charger configuration) will provide plenty of power to top off your battery in just a couple of hours after low mileage days. While many of the public stations being installed today can be used at full power with just the Single Charger, you may encounter some high amperage charging stations in the wild
The 250-mile average range of an electric car in normal climate conditions can see its performance reduced by 70-miles on a single charge in average winter conditions. (9th grade physical science) Richard Ilaner If you are interested in learning exactly how to generate power and reduce your bill then this is the perfect resource for you! With the ever increasing costs of living, there is no better time than right now to stop throwing money out the window and start generating our own electricity
Can the VersiCharge be hardwired? Yes, both the Universal and the hardwired version of the VersiCharge can be hardwired (aka permanently installed) either by running conduit to the installation site or by hardwiring the unit from behind. How much will installation of my charging cost? Installation costs can vary widely depending on location and permitting requirements in your area. The charging station establishes communication with the vehicle, determines it is safe to allow power to flow through the cord, and removes power from the cord when charging is done
Slow, fast, and faster: Where to charge electric cars - CNET
And the reason they generally only charge a car up to 80 percent is an intentional design to protect the battery, which can lose capacity from this type of charging. A Level 2 charging station plugs into the car's J1772 port, draws 240 volts with 30 amps current, and can take the Leaf from 0 miles to full range in 4 hours if the car is equipped with the optional 6.6 kilowatt onboard charger

Almost everyone already has regular residential outlets in their garages, so a three pronged consumer end as one of several consumer end options, as well the higher voltage consumer ends, is really the no brainer. The outlets are exactly the same as the ones we use in America except in China they supply 220 instead of 110 power .(probably all made there) You can get them in bright orange to show that it is a dedicated use line only to be used to charge up the car
Maybe you'll drive your other car, that gas-burner you keep around for long trips, or if there's public EV charging in your area, you can charge away from home while you're parked to do your shopping or other errands. Level 1 charging at work could also be a supplement for people driving over 40 miles per day, or even a substitute for those who can't charge at home (because they don't have a garage or fixed parking place, for example)
Usually this is done via a dedicated Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) wall box, but can be done occasionally using a charge cable plugged into a standard domestic socket. Quick Charge Renault Zoe Quick Charging (Image: Renault) Some dedicated and specialised public charge stations can supply up to 43kW from a three-phase supply
But with the advent of demand charges and time-of-day pricing, two new variables are tossed into the equation: the total amount of power that a house is currently drawing and the electric rate at that moment in time. Even longer term, if EVs become part of the grid-level storage system, this app can help facilitate the transfer of energy between the EV and the smart grid
Adopt a Charger is a non profit organization that solicits sponsorship of EV charging at popular destination locations like parks, museums, and universities. Ideally, such spots would "smart" charge, that is, cost less for off peak use than for on peak use in imitation of the cost of home charging in one's garage
If your parking lot had 30 or so charge points then it's unlikely that they would all be out of action at the same time, and even if they were, then you'd have more in the next parking lot, or further up the street. LEAF salesman? Thanks for the comments, and although I was aware of California's recent changes I didn't want to add them to the article as it already felt long..
