and after formatting when i went to re-install the OS, after selecting language a pop up appears in the installer which says that Mac OS X can't be installed on this computer ??? and it doesn't say WHY i have read at many forums that this might be due to using a non retail version (some other mac specific) of setup.... CD? Surely DVD, black faced if it's a generic disc, grey with the specific machine printed on it in white for original install disc, and there will usually be 2 of them

Does anyone know how to then install the 10.6.8 update in safe mode? Since USB drives and discs don't appear to mount i cant install the file i have already downloaded and the network doesn't work on my system with 10.6. I ran into this same problem and it turns out that I had grabbed an OS install disk that was trying to install a version of MacOS that was older than the one that shipped with the computer. Is that the reason that the software is not installing? If so, do I have to get my leopard CDs from home shipped to me to get them to work? Or do I have to get my original factory CDs? Because honestly, I have no idea where my original computer factory CDs are that came with the computer are, but I know where my leopard CDs are since the computer originally came with Tiger
